La Puerta de Alcala - The Alcala Gate in MADRID




In 1764 King Carlos III commissioned the Italian architect Sabatini to construct a large gate to replace a small 16th century baroque gate, built by King Philip III. Construction of the gate took 9 years It was completed in 1778. 
The gate is one of Madrid's symbols. It is classified as a national monument.
